Sakarya University was established in 1970 as an engineering and architectural institute in the city of Sakarya, located in northwestern Turkey, an hour and a half by bus from Istanbul. In 1971, Sakarya University was transformed from an engineering and architectural institute into a large engineering and architectural academy supported by the government, and in the period between 1982 and 1992 it was linked to “Istanbul Technical University” as an engineering college affiliated with the latter.
